  Organic Poppy seed
  Hindi Name: Khuskhus
  Botanical name: Papaver Somniferum
  Part used: Fruit

Poppy, Papaver somniferum, also known as the opium or oil poppy, is a tall, robust annual belonging to the poppy family and is indigenous to the eastern Mediterranean region, Asia minor, and central Asia. Since ancient times the red poppy flower has been the symbol of fallen warriors in many countries, alleged to have derives its colour from the blood of the heroes slain in battle.
The botanical epithet somniferum means "sleep-bearing" and refers to this plant's narcotic qualities.

The tiny poppy seeds, which have an agreeable nutty flavor and no narcotic properties, are used as a condiment on rolls, pastry, and baked goods, and are crushed to produce an edible oil.

An excellent source of protein and fiber, poppy seeds add a crunch and sweet flavor to all kinds of baked goods. These are tiny nutty tasting, blue-gray seeds inside capsules on Papaver somniferum, a yellowish-brown opium plant indigenous to the mediterranean. geographical sources. The seeds are native to Mediterranean regions, India, China, Turkey, and Iran.

Poppy Seeds have a slightly nutty aroma and taste and are used to add flavor in breads, cakes, rolls, and cookies in European and Middle Eastern cooking. In India, poppy seeds are used to thicken sauces. These are also used in noodles, fish, and vegetable dishes in Jewish, German, and Slavic cooking.
